Permission isn’t the end goal of growth— it’s the foundation
Some people do too much. It would serve these people to do less.
Other people don’t do enough. It would serve these people to do more, and to try harder!
A lot of people don’t know what they’re doing, and do the wrong things.
If you are somebody who tends to do too much, the challenge when trying to work on yourself, is that it can be really tempting to look to teachers who pump you up with even more motivation. “Do more, go harder, achieve your goals!”
When actually, that is not what you need. You would benefit more from slowing down, relaxing, focusing on being more than doing.
But if you are somebody who is not doing enough, and is not disciplined- and then you’re absorbing teachings about the value of rest, being gentle on yourself, doing things the feminine way, everything should be pleasurable and everything from desire, I”f it’s not a fuck yes it’s a no!” … that’s probably not helping you.
It’s valuable to be honest with oneself about what you actually need.
This is why I find systems like Enneagram and Human Design to be so valuable- they help us to see ourselves more clearly, and to bring awareness to our blindspots.
It’s possible to reach these realizations on our own without a map- but the tendency to keep repeating our familiar comfortable patterns is so deeply ingrained. As such, it’s helpful to have an external reminder that pushes us to do what doesn’t come naturally, and isn’t comfortable, but is actually where the biggest growth is.
Human Design is extraordinarily permission giving, this is true.
It is liberating and beautiful to have full permission and approval for exactly who you are and where you are at in this moment.
And ALSO, permission isn’t the end goal of growth— it’s the foundation.
From a foundation of unconditional self-love, loving both your true self and your not-self, befriending your personality and all its silly protective mechanisms and neurosis…
You can begin to grow beyond your self-imposed limitations and into a more expanded version of all you can be. When permission becomes the ultimate destination, it can look like complacency and stagnation.
This is one of the reasons why I’m no longer offering HD readings without an enneagram typing interview first. Both systems are brilliant, and both have blind spots/limitations. By integrating both, we increase the chances that our work together isn’t only validating and permission giving, but also helps you to see beyond your limited self-concepts, honestly assess and identify the core ways in which you’re still making excuses to stay stuck, and recognize how to get out of your own way.
If you’re a past client interested in a free enneagram typing interview, reach out to me— I would love to reconnect. And if you’re a new client jazzed about the prospect of experiencing this new iteration of my work and receiving a free typing interview before your HD reading, you can book here.
